The Row meets Tom's

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen and Tom's combine to create herringbone, wool cashmere, and plaid shoes. Tom's already has a reputation as outstandingly philanthropic, and the Olsen's have reiterated that for every pair sold, a pair will be given to a child in need. Not only a nice addition to our wardrobes, but to our moral-responsibility awareness.

OH. MY. GOD. How could I have let it go this long without a single post. Apologies, apologies to all loyalists! So, due to requests and renewed ambitions, I am back to write little bits, thoughts, and observations. I am also back on the radar after painting, biking, and swimming days away in Cape Breton.

Stored away in the Mabou Harbour house I found an old collection of natural hand spun Scottish wool along with some faded pastel towels and beach tops from the 80s which i quickly threw into my beach bag and called my own. The little shops in Inverness County were brimming with tole painted home decor, fabric dyed textiles, art made from sea glass or shells, paintings of the rugged terrain, and patriotic Scottish china cups and spoons.



We ended off our three week stay on the island with the 55th Annual Broad Cove Concert hosted by Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy and Family. The shrieking of the two fiddle/two keyboard ensemble was accompanied by a dozen or two step dancing children clad in white with a tartan sashes. It was another world altogether.

Two days spent in Halifax and with Minty Michelle's quirky taste introduced my to some fabulous shops that have blown my mind. This city is amazingly wonderful, the people incredibly friendly, and the architecture so inspiring with its old brick walls and nooks filled with the most interesting odds and ends. The presence of NSCAD near the waterfront only adds to the magic of the city. Old wools, high stockings, and richly stained leather booties just help your mind fathom the enchantment of the old cobblestone streets and nostalgia of the city as a whole.


Side note: I love port cities. Just love them. I love their splashes of color, I love their creaky vintage shops, and I love the smell of fried fish and waterfront boardwalks. I shall share the few places I remember of the lot we discovered.

First on the list, Elsie's Used Clothing on Queen, just up from American Apparel. Warm colors, little stacks of cashmere, and a tub painted purple just stir your creative vibes and steal your mind for a moment.



The Black Market carries colourful and eclectic imports from India/East Asia, and unlike similar stores in other cities, the prices are wallet friendly. Spicy coloured bookshelves, dangling shells, colourful fancies, and little treasures outnumber the usual stock of pashminas and wooden rings.


We ended the day with a Nutella and Vanilla Milkshake from Freak Lunchbox tour of King's College Campus in the rain.

Some Leather for your Liking

Moped drives along a windy coast, spring shopping under a patchy sun, and biking along the seawall. They require one staple: Leather, baby.
And who does a quilted and fitted better than Burberry Prorsum? No one I can think of! Comments please!

And who thought flares wouldn't come back?!

That's right. They are back, and in full force. I am prepping to scour the streets of Vancouver for keen few who have caught on. No doubt there will be some long legs of flares out there in this spring weather. Be you a girl, or a guy- the seventies are back, and I admit- I am rather excited to see where people take it!

60s LOVE

February rolls in as do the waves on Kits shore. Wow. Fall has gone and past, and looking outside my little window, it seems as though winter has as well. Lush green leaves, big, wet rain droplets, and little green potted iris and hyacinth bulbs lining the racks outside the grocery stores. Could it be Spring? We have yet to see. For the moment it is Vancouver weather, and I love it. The old man with a long silver ponytail and Valentine's card in hand, smirks at my sister and I as we dash by dressed in 60s attire. I imagine that to him, the past few decades have melted as quickly as the snow has this week. I imagine that the days of Joni, Jean, and Joan are fresh in his mind, as are Jimi's vicious guitar solos and the Who's long wailing chords. Or on that note, perhaps a tad foggy.

Sixties. The day I get over them is the day I think the world will end. I adore just about everything related to or even vaguely inspired by the sixties. Bring on the seventies and everything the spring trends will surface, but first, here is a quick ode to the sixties.

Sam Haskins captured the 60s we have come to adore, from little girl stockings and tom boy linens to the winged liner and pretty lingerie.

Marianne Faithful, I love her for her bangs and fur, and a little for her music as well.

Winter Coats

So, with winter comes fun: snow (for most of us), scarves, hats, mitts, and everyone's favourite winter staple: Coats!

I enjoyed finding a few the past while and thought to share!
